On July 4th, 2015 I had the pleasure of DJing a wedding at the McKernan Center in South Portland, ME. The Southern Maine Community College campus, where the McKernan Center is located, overlooks the Maine coast and Willard Beach. You can watch cruise lines, beautiful sailboats, fishermen & lobstermen, and the sunset over the water on your wedding day!
The McKernan Center is a beautiful location to have a wedding. There is a very small church across the street that is perfect for a small, very personal, ceremony. The little church has a ton of character and is very well kept. The wedding I was able to be part of only had 50 guests and it was very difficult to fit that small of a wedding into the little church! It was beautiful, nonetheless.
The center has an area for dancing, a formal dining room with a full bar, and an enclosed sun room that circles both the dance floor and dining room that is absolutely perfect for cocktail hour. The enclosed sun room is the best area, for your guests, to look out over the beautiful Maine coastline and have a couple of drinks in celebration of your big day.
The way the center is set up you would feel like you’re in one of Portland’s finest hotels. To add to this lovely feel the center has rooms located upstairs that you can utilize for your guests. This package of off street parking, a small church, a beautiful Maine beach, rooms, and a center that can support the needs of your reception makes the McKernan Center a perfect venue for your Maine destination wedding.
